Heifer International, Living Gifts Program In December 2006 the Missions Committee invited the congregation to give alternative gifts in the form of a gift animal or a share of an animal to needy families worldwide through the
Heifer International, Living Gifts Program. This program is one of the many special projects funded by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). The Asbury congregation’s gifts totaled $2803.76. The Missions Committee supplemented this gift with $246.24 from the Missions budget to turn gifts of shares of animals into whole animals. Our final check for 2006 of $3,050 was a donation for the following living gifts:
3 heifers
2 water buffalos
1 llama
4 sheep
1 goat
4 honey bees
6 flocks of chickens
1 tree seedling
These gifts will make a real difference in the lives of those who receive them. The recipients agree to share offspring with others in need so the gift keeps giving. Asbury’s participation has been phenomenal!
